CASA of Santa Barbara County is proud to welcome six newly sworn-in Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) who have completed training and are ready to serve children and youth in the foster care system throughout Santa Barbara County.

After more than 30 hours of specialized training, these volunteers took their oath and officially joined a dedicated network of advocates committed to ensuring that children who have experienced abuse and/or neglect have a consistent, caring adult advocating for their best interests.

The swearing-in ceremony was led by Judge Kay S. Kuns, who recognized the importance of CASA volunteers and the meaningful role they play in the lives of children. During the ceremony, Judge Kuns shared an inspiring message with the new advocates, stating, “The most honorable way to serve your community is by becoming a CASA.”

The ceremony also featured remarks from CASA of Santa Barbara County Executive Director Kim Colby Davis, who shared her personal journey with the organization. Kim began her involvement with CASA as a volunteer advocate, serving children and youth in the foster care system before taking on leadership roles within the organization and ultimately becoming Executive Director. Her story served as a powerful reminder of the lasting impact a single volunteer can have and the many ways individuals can contribute to improving outcomes for children in our community.

CASA volunteers work one-on-one with children and youth involved in the foster care system, building trusted relationships and providing judges with objective information and recommendations that help inform decisions about a child's future. By advocating for their educational, emotional, medical, and overall well-being needs, CASA volunteers help ensure that children's voices are heard and their best interests remain at the center of every decision.

We are incredibly grateful for these six individuals who have stepped forward to serve some of the most vulnerable children in our community. Their commitment, compassion, and dedication will make a lasting difference in the lives of the children they serve.

While this milestone is worth celebrating, the need for advocates remains significant. Children throughout Santa Barbara County are still waiting to be matched with a CASA volunteer who can provide the support, consistency, and advocacy they deserve.

CASA of Santa Barbara County is currently recruiting volunteers for its next training class beginning August 4. Community members aged 21 or older who are interested in making a meaningful difference in a child's life are encouraged to learn more and apply.
