The National Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Day is observed on the second Saturday of May. It is the largest food drive in the country and takes place in more than 10,000 cities and towns. One in six Americans face hunger every day and the United States Postal Service and the National Association of Letter Carriers want to remind everyone that they can help with this wonderful initiative. The Stamp Out Hunger Donor Drive aims to feed the hungry in the U.S., and as always, with your help, they can and they will. The Foodbank of Santa Barbara County has partnered with your local post offices to ensure that the food you donate stays in your community. We usually collect around 80,000 pounds each year. Plan ahead to participate this year to help us reach our goal of 100,000 pounds.
Accepted items: All shelf-stable, non-glass food items.
To donate, just place any bag filled with non-perishable, unexpired food next to your mailbox before your letter carrier delivers mail on the second Saturday in May. The carrier will do the rest. Foodbank staff and volunteers will unload the donations for delivery to the warehouse, where it will be sorted and available to our partner agencies.
