The Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department's Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center invites young men in 7th- through 12th grades to participate in the free "1st Tie Initiative" program. During this one day course participants will discuss different methods of communication, positive interactions with law enforcement, healthy nutrition choices, workforce preparation, importance of education, healthy relationships, and leadership skills. There will be multiple speakers bringing perspective and guidance to each topic.
At the completion of the course each male will have the opportunity to select a necktie. The tie demonstrates a symbol of hope and responsibility; to make young men a better version of themselves.
Register online at www.cityofsantamaria.org/register, at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center, 600 South McClelland Street, or at the Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department, 615 South McClelland Street.
