Santa Maria Valley Chamber to host City of Santa Maria City Council Candidate Forum

With election season gearing up, the Santa Maria Valley Chamber is hosting an opportunity for the public to speak directly with candidates for the upcoming City of Santa Maria City Council elections. Wednesday, September 28th, the Santa Maria community is invited to participate in a forum with candidates running for Council Districts 3 and 4. The forum will be held at Shepard Hall in the Santa Maria Public Library, between 6 and 8 pm.

The evening will begin with an information networking opportunity from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm where attendees will have the chance to talk one-on-one with the candidates. At 6:30 pm the forum will begin with opening statements from each candidate. Following opening statements, attendees will meet with the candidates in small group sessions for a Q&A session. Attendees are encouraged to use this forum in particular to ask questions about issues that impact on the economic vitality of our community and families.

Candidates invited to attend include:

Steven Funkhouser, District 3
Gloria Soto, District 3
Maribel Aguilera-Hernandez, District 4
Carol Karamitsos, District 4

“Elections always matter,” said Glenn Morris, president and CEO of the Chamber. “This election, however, is particularly important as our community is preparing to make important decisions about how we will grow and develop over the next 20-30 years. Ensuring that members of the City Council understand the implications of those decisions on the community’s ability to deliver good jobs, good housing, and the quality of life we all want is critical.”

The City Council Candidate Forum event is free and open to the public.
