NEWS RELEASE

March 2, 2023

Teen Trails Program

Santa Maria teens can go on horseback riding and hiking excursions, if they sign up soon for free programs offered by the City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department.

Pre-registration is required, as space is limited. Registrations may be made online at www.cityofsantamaria.org/register.

The two excursions to regional trails are for teens in grades 7 through 12. Both activities will be funded by the State of California’s Outdoor Equity Grant awarded to the Santa Maria Outdoor Recreation Experience (SMORE) program.

On Saturday, March 11th, the participants will hike the charming Oso Flaco Lake Trail. A docent will educate the teens on the lake’s ecosystem. The participants will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center, located at 600 South McClelland Street in Santa Maria.

On Saturday, March 25th, the teens will enjoy a horseback trail ride along the Gaviota coast. The participants will meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center.

Transportation will be provided to the participants from the youth center to the lake trail and horse stables.
